Sarah Selecky

We were so pleased to work with Sarah Selecky to build her new, highly reliable and updatable website, as she launched her first book of short stories, This Cake Is For the Party, in May of 2010. Not only did the first run of her books sell out, but she was shortlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize, a great honor—and driver of significant webtraffic!

Besides being an accomplished writer, Sarah is also a well respected writing instructor and editor. She is an adept entrepreneur and uses social media, newsletters, and marketing through the website to promote her work.

Sarah's style was quite well worked out in her first html site, so Visual Creative took that as a launching point and carried it over to the Squarespace hosting platform. We chose an unusual, bookish, serif body-font to compliment the antique library concept that organizes the site (links are in a "card catalogue"). The site's banner, revised in March 2011, shows us the hand of the writer: a playful pull with the rest of the type which refers so strongly to the printing process.
