Gartside Boats

In late spring 2011, we completed a portfolio and e-commerce web-site for Paul Gartside Ltd., an internationally recognized wooden boat builder and designer. Paul is unique in the already narrow niche of the wooden boat world, in that he is both a builder and a designer. His site is loaded with instructive tips for the novice to advanced builder, and packed with drool-worthy images of sailing and cruising for the avid boater and the armchair traveller.

Site-visitors can easily download electronic study-plans for any of the 80 stock plans available in the store. When they are ready to build (or hire a builder) customers may purchase full plan sets, also available electronically, or printed and shipped. The ease of electronic purchase and download for both Paul and his customers was a major motivation for the site redesign. We built this site with Shopify platform, a beautiful system for e-commerce which is serving this client and his customers very well.
Another key motivation for redesign was a wish to enable Paul to make his own content and product updates, regularly and easily. Paul was very uneasy with technical web interfaces, but with Squarespace as the hosting CMS, he is now radically empowered to manage his own business' web-presence.
All around, a successful and satisfying project!
